Another perspective on Twinity

December 27, 2008 by Metaverse Journal Editor Leave a Comment

Australian machinima producer and virtual worlds observer, Skribe Forti, has created a very interesting review of mirror world Twinity. It seems a balanced piece that covers both the strengths and weaknesses of Twinity, which is currently in beta:

What are your thoughts? Do you agree with Skribe’s summary of Twinity?

I agree. Twinity looks good but there's nothing to do once you get there. I have only seen a few avatars and I've only ever chatted to one other. I guess this is a problem when there are so few users and also when you're Australian, and not awake when the rest of the world is. I'll keep an eye on it and hopefully, I will get along to an inworld event.

I'm always looking for realworld applications for virtual worlds, but I must admit; I'm struggling with Twinity.

I have to say I agree with Skribe. It is very frustrating seeing open spaces that you want to explore, but when you move over towards them you hit that invisible 'no-go' barrier. I fully agree with his point that the creativity of the endusers seems to be stiffled in Twinity – everything in terms of building is done for you. Some may like that, but one of the big things that keeps pulling me back to SL is the creativity you find there.

Still, I also agree with Skribe that's its early days. Don't give up yet Twinity!
